ABOUT

MAKEMAKECOFFEE is an independent 'good things', culture, coffee and food business based in South East London, run by Olivia and Jonny Mundey-Abbatt.

Since 2014 we have been serving some of London's most delicious speciality coffee from a much beloved coffee cart outside Haggerston station, in all weathers, with a smile. While the pandemic paused our Haggerston site, you can always find us at our first bricks and mortar 'coffee bar + good things store' - Kiosk 1 - directly outside Surrey Quays station. At Kiosk 1 we offer a curated range of good things to read, look at, eat and enjoy alongside speciality coffee and delicious alternatives. Read on for more about us and stay in touch with us day-to-day on instagram - @makemakecoffee / @makemakecoffee.sq.

Kiosk 1

Kiosk 1 is a 'coffee bar + good things store'. It is inspired by Australia’s coffee culture, Sardinia’s espresso bars, Lisbon’s Kiosks, and Cornwall’s village stores. Like our inspirations, Kiosk 1 is all about beautiful convenience. It's a welcoming place bringing together good coffee, good food, and other good things, under one roof. We offer the full range of speciality coffees, other delectable drinks, outrageous grilled cheese sandwiches, a curated range of incredibly tasty independent foods for your kitchen - plus select art, books and homewares and other good things.

On the coffee side, we are proud to have served directly sourced, locally-roasted, speciality coffee from Climpson & Sons, from day one. We complement our coffee with Northiam Dairy Milk, and serve Snapery Bakery pastries and sourdough bread and Celtic Bakers cakes and vegan treats.

In the 'Good Things Store' it's our mission to bring you amazing produce from independent farms, dairies, chefs, artists, publishers and makers. To do this, we've visited farms, food halls, arches and warehouses where awesome independent businesses are making really good things - and we've brought the best flavours and designs back to our shelves. We’re talking food for your kitchens that is: incredibly tasty, local*, independent, ethically-produced, & packed plastic-free where possible. We focused on sourcing from farms in Kent & East Sussex, and producers in Southwark and Hackney. These are special places that have vibrant food cultures. But alongside the good food, you’ll also be able to find a book, magazine, art prints, cards, mugs, candles, and other special things for your home that you love, too.

We love flavours and the joy they can bring to the everyday, and we hope you love the tastes brought together on our store shelves as much as we do.

We look forward to seeing you for a coffee and a toastie, among other good things, soon

Our Story

Speciality Coffee, Since 2014

Since 2014 MAKEMAKECOFFEE has been serving some of East London's most delicious speciality coffee outside Haggerston station. Due to the extraordinary circumstances of 2020/21 we have paused this site, and are concentrating on Kiosk 1, which opened in November 2020.

We are proud to have always served directly sourced, locally-roasted, speciality coffee from Climpson & Sons - pioneers of London's third-wave coffee scene.

In the early years, we served from our much-beloved Piaggio van. In 2019 we replaced the Piaggio with a beautiful bespoke coffee cart, designed and built by David Jones.

Delicious Deli Essentials, Since 2020

During the first Covid-19 national lockdown and for several months beyond, we ran a groceries + coffee HOME DELIVERY SERVICE to Haggerston and the surrounding areas. We delivered fresh, vibrant, heart-warming and mouth-wateringly tasty ‘chef-made meals’, plus seasonal fresh veg and key cupboard supplies from a range of amazing ethical suppliers to complement the dishes. (This service was uniquely suited to the time and is no longer live. )

Pay it Forward 2021 - Thank you!

In early 2021 we ran a successful online sales campaign (offering delicious coffee to make at home, delectable deli supplies, things to read, things to wear - and more). Thank you to everyone who got involved. All the delicious things you ordered helped us access match funding from the Mayor of London that is enabling us to weather the challenges of the pandemic, launch an online shop (see our Christmas webshop) and come back stronger from the experience of the pandemic time.
